The fight against Galamsey is not rife as authorities have decided not to put much effort into it to end the degradation of Ghana’s environment by Ghanaians and Chinese nationals. On Saturday at Akyem Amanase in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Police arrested 15 Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian at a Galamsey site where they were illegally mining.

The operation team, led by CID Director-General DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confiscated excavation tools during the arrest of the criminals.  Investigations are currently being conducted to identify the leadership and smuggling networks that support the operation.

The fight against illegal mining must be intensified because people are not ready to stop it. The criminals definitely have the backing of some of the rich men in the society but DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor has promised to uncover them all.
