Umar Ahmed, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Denkyembour, faced a potential attack from an upset crowd in Akyem Wenchi following the collapse of a galamsey pit that resulted in the deaths of approximately four individuals.
The event occurred in the Eastern Region of Ghana. An eyewitness reported that the DCE was in the area at approximately 6:40 p.m. when he was attacked unexpectedly.” Police officers fired shots into the air to ensure his safety and help him leave the area unharmed.
Numerous individuals were trapped beneath the fallen pit. The DCE attempted to aid in the rescue and requested that residents relocate two excavators to help.
Some residents mistakenly believed he intended to remove the machines, which caused their anger. The crowd obstructed the road and threw stones at him. He was able to get away in his car.
The community is surprised, and many people are requesting improved safety measures at mining locations.
