The Asante Mampong High Court has imposed a fine of GH¢50,000 on 13 family members after they were found guilty of contempt of court for allegedly violating an injunction by continuing with an Islamic marriage ceremony.
This ceremony involved a woman who is currently in a marital dispute that is still being addressed by the court.
The court stated that the respondents intentionally ignored orders from both traditional authorities and the High Court that prohibited the marriage until the main case was resolved.
Judge William Boampong ordered each convicted individual to either pay a fine of GH¢50,000 or serve 30 days in jail.
The sentence will stay in effect until the main case is finally resolved.
The court has also issued bench warrants for the arrest of three individuals who did not show up for the ruling.
