The Manhyia Palace has announced that the one-week observance for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Bogyawe, within the Manhyia Palace grounds in Kumasi.

The solemn event will be held from 12 midday to 6pm, with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, leading the Asanteman in paying respects to the late queen mother.

In a statement signed by Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, it was further disclosed that all funerals across Asanteman will be suspended on the day to allow for a unified observance of the rites.

The Asantehene formally informed the Asanteman Council of the Queen Mother’s passing on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III died peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

A Life of Service and Tradition

Born in 1927, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III was the eldest child of the 13th Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem III, and Opanin Kofi Foffie of Besease.

Affectionately known as “Nana Panin” in her youth, she was raised under the care of her aunt, Nana Afia Konadu, in Ashanti New Town, Kumasi.

Although she did not receive formal schooling, Nana Panin was well-educated through traditional palace tutelage.

At the age of 22, she was baptized into the Saviour Church of Ghana with the Christian name Ruth.

She also maintained close ties to the Anglican Church, in line with Asante royal tradition.

Before ascending the stool, she worked as a caterer specializing in traditional Asante cuisine, alongside farming and petty trading.

Her personal interests included cooking, music, and dance.

Ascension to the Throne

Following the death of her mother in 2016 at the remarkable age of 111, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III was enstooled as the 14th Queen Mother of Asante on February 6, 2017.

Her rise to the throne was seen as the fulfillment of a prophecy from the Kwaku Firi Shrine, delivered through Baafuo Osei Akoto, a senior linguist of the Asantehene.

During her reign, she was widely respected for her fairness, honesty, and wisdom in settling disputes.

She presided over her own court, where her rulings were often hailed as impartial.

Her legacy includes the Nana Konadu Saviour School at Bonwire, named in her honour by the Saviour Church of Ghana.
