Abdul Munaf Lawal, a 32-year-old man, has been accused of defrauding a victim out of USD 50,000 by claiming he would convert the money into Ghana cedis for them.

Lawal is accused of taking the money but not providing the service and then disappearing.

He was apprehended in Accra on June 27, 2025, after being on the run for several months, due to a related offence and was then taken to the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

Lawal was accused of committing fraud through false pretences.

He appeared in the Asokwa Circuit Court and received a sentence of 35 years in prison with hard labour.
