A suspected arson attack in Atebubu-Amantin has left the community in shock after a vehicle belonging to a former constituency executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was set ablaze in the early hours of Sunday, 21 September 2025.
The victim, William Kwaku Boateng, a former NPP constituency vice chairman, was asleep when unknown assailants torched his Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GS 1001-19. The fire, which broke out around 1:45 a.m., quickly engulfed the vehicle before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) brought it under control.

Evidence Points To Planned Attack
Preliminary investigations revealed boxes of matches and bottles suspected to have contained fuel at the crime scene, strongly suggesting a coordinated act of arson.
Police officials and fire investigators have since launched a joint inquiry, appealing to residents of Atebubu and its environs to provide leads that could help track down the perpetrators.
Political Undertones Cannot Be Ignored
The attack has raised suspicions of politically motivated violence. Boateng, who served as an NPP constituency vice chairman in Atebubu-Amantin, has remained a visible figure in local politics even after leaving his position.
Atebubu-Amantin, located in the Bono East Region, has historically been a hotbed of political rivalry between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), often recording heightened tensions during election seasons.
While no group has claimed responsibility, observers note that politically connected individuals in the area have previously been victims of intimidation and reprisals.
Police Call For Calm
The Atebubu Police and has assured the public of its commitment to getting to the bottom of the matter.
