A trip back to the Aviva Stadium in the capital of the Republic of Ireland, Dublin, on 22nd May 2024. Ademola Lookman produced a remarkable hat-trick in the Europa League finals that even Pele and Diego Maradona, wherever they are, will be impressed by in Atalanta’s 3-0 evisceration of Bayer Leverkusen.

He became the first African player to receive the historic 10/10 rating from French media L’Equipe after his performance against Leverkusen made him the 18th player to do so in history.

The unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen were the clear favorites against Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta but Ademola Lookman single handedly destroyed the German champions.

The results of that unbelievable performance from the Nigerian forward is a nomination among the the top 30 candidates to be voted in October for the Balon d’or.

Lookman is the only African to be on the list. He is not going to win it definitely but it’s a huge achievement to be among this group. He’s the clear favourite for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year as he played key role in Nigeria’s trip to the AFCON finals.
