Zambia and Orlando Pride forward Barbra Banda has been crowned as the 2024 BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year.

Banda, 24, has been so sensational in the year 2024 after moving from Chinese club Shanghai Shengli in March to the NWSL in the USA.

She becomes the second African footballer to win the coveted award since Nigeria’s Asusat Oshoala won it in 2015 ahead of Veronica Boquete of FFC Frankfurt and Spain and Nadine Kesler of Germany and Wolfsburg.

The global superstar announced her presence in world football when she sealed a 4-year deal worth $740,000 from the Chinese Super League to Orlando Pride, becoming the second most expensive female footballer ever.

In the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the forward scored 4 goals incliding a hattrick against Australia as she impressed the entire world.

That was only the beginning; Barbra Banda helped Orlando Pride win the NWSL title in the USA by scoring the winner in the finals against Washington Spirit. Banda was crowned the MVP of the MLS.

She is the overwhelming favourite to win the African Women’s Footballer of the Year ahead of everyone.
