German club Bayer Leverkusen has sacked former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag after just three weeks into the new season.
The Dutch manager, after leaving Manchester United, stayed at home for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
Bayer Leverkusen approached and signed him to lead the club when Xabi Alonso decided to accept Real Madrid’s offer.
The 54-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam manager was sacked on Monday morning after failing to win any of the two Bundesliga games played so far in the season.
Leverkusen thrashed lower division side Grossaspach 4-0 in the DFB-Pokal, as it happens to be his only win.
In the Bundesliga, Erik Ten Hag’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen failed to win any of their opening two games. The club in the first game lost 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim and in game week two drew 3-3 against 10-man Werder Bremen.
Leverkusen in the transfer window lost star players like Xakha, Wirtz, Frimpong and Tah to the big boys, and it is clear their absence has been affecting the club.
Ten Hag is the first manager to be sacked in the new season in the German Bundesliga
