The Black Princesses of Ghana played to a goalless draw against Mexico’s U-20 Women’s National Team in an international friendly match as both teams prepared for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The match started with both sides displaying strong intent, and Mexico created an early opportunity in the 9th minute.
However, Ghana’s defense, led by Afi Amenyeku, managed to clear the threat, conceding a corner kick.
Ghana’s first significant chance came in the 28th minute when Salamatu Abdullai attempted a shot, but her effort sailed over the bar, missing the target.
In the second half, both teams intensified their efforts, seeking the opening goal. Ghana’s captain, Stella Nyamekye, came close to breaking the deadlock with a powerful header, but the Mexican goalkeeper made a crucial save to keep the scoreline intact.
The friendly match served as a valuable opportunity for both teams to fine-tune their squads ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The tournament is set to kick off in Colombia, running from Saturday, August 31 to Sunday, September 22, 2024.
The Black Princesses will begin their campaign against Austria on September 2, followed by group matches against Japan and New Zealand in Group E.
