Swedish football coach Kim Lars Björkegren has been appointed the new Head Coach of Ghana’s Senior National Female team, the Black Queens, replacing Nora Hauptle.

A former player for Åtvidabergs FF, Kim transitioned to coaching after an injury ended his football career.

With 18 years of experience, he holds a UEFA License A and has achieved notable successes, including winning the Cyprus Women’s League with Apollon Ladies and the Damallsvenskan with Linköping FC.

He was named Coach of the Season in Cyprus during the 2020-2021 season and shares a record with Sven-Göran Eriksson for winning two domestic titles in different countries.

Kim has also served as a scout for the Finland Women’s National Team, managed Beijing BG Phoenix in the Chinese Super League, and was most recently the manager of Racing Louisville in the NWSL.

His coaching philosophy emphasizes possessive, attacking football and values discipline, teamwork, and adaptability, aligning well with Ghana’s football philosophy.

With his background in women’s football and sports psychology, Kim is seen as the ideal choice to lead the Black Queens to success.

He is expected to lead Black Queens to at least the semi-finals of the 2025 WAFCON set to be played in 2025 summer in Morocco.
