The Black Stars of Ghana’s major problem in recent years has been a trusted goalkeeper.
Ghana’s downfall in AFCON 2023 was partly due to the incompetence of Richard Ofori who calamitously let the team down in the make-or-break tie against Mozambique.
Ghana will face Mali and CAR in MD3 and MD4 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Bamako and Kumasi respectively.
On Wednesday, head coach Otto Addo named his squad and included Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Frederick Asare.
The goalkeeper is considered one of the best in the country and hence has been named alongside Lawrence Ati Zigi of Swiss side St. Gallen and Jojo Wollacot of Hibernian FC in Scotland.
Frederick Asare, 25, has been Asante Kotoko’s number 1 goalkeeper in the current campaign.
Lawrence Ati-Zigi is expected to win the number 1 slot in the crucial games in Bamako and Oseikrom.
