Arsenal’s bona fide midfielder Thomas Partey was the deputy captain to Andre Ayew for the Black Stars before he decided to relinquish the role.

Mohammed Kudus took over the captaincy duty during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, but Jordan Ayew is set to lead the team in 2025s March’s international break.

GFA communications director Henry Asante Twum, in an interview with Sporty TV, dismissed any rumoured concerns over Thomas Partey losing the Black Stars armband, stating that the Arsenal midfield maestro is focused on the Black Stars’ slot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“It’s not a problem for Thomas Partey that he’s no longer the Black Stars captain. It’s not about individual aspirations,” Asante Twum told Sporty FM.

Partey is part of the Black Stars team currently preparing to face minnows Chad and Madagascar in rounds 5 and 6 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
