Patrick Schick is Xabi Alonso’s number-one striker. The Czech Republic international has been the main man in Bayer Leverkusen’s attack after scoring 17 games in 24 Bundesliga matches thus far.

On Friday, Nigeria’s Victor Boniface was partnered in attack alongside Patrick Schick in the club’s 3-1 win over Bochum.

It was Boniface’s first start for club and country in the last 10 games.

“I don’t really think about those things. There’s a lot of media talk – Boni this, Boni this, Boni that – without people knowing me,” Boniface said.

The striker found the back of the net against Bochum, and he was not bothered at all regarding the lack of many minutes in the current campaign compared to last season.

“But, as I said, I don’t really care. I’m just trying to help the team. It doesn’t really matter how [much] I’m playin’; when I’m on the pitch,h I try to help the team, same as the other players. We’re trying to give 100% for the fans; they deserve this,” he told ESPN in the post-match interview.
