Boxing| Two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman dies aged 76

George Edward Foreman’s family has announced the death of their beloved former heavyweight boxer at the age of 76.

The boxer was so popular and monstrous during his heydays as he famously competed against the legendary Muhammed Ali in Zaire in one of the biggest bouts ever in the history of boxing.

On early Saturday morning, Foreman’s family announced to the world the demise of one of Boxing’s most iconic figures ever.

“With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones,” the post read.

Foreman, a heavyweight champion boxer, was “a devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather”, the family’s statement said

“A humanitarian, an Olympian, two-time heavyweight champion of the world. He was deeply respected – a force for good, a man of discipline and conviction, and a protector of his legacy fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name – for his family.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayer, and kindly ask for privacy as we honour the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.”

Cause of death

Nothing has been said about the cause of Foreman’s death yet, however, minutes after Foreman’s passing was relayed on social media, fans posted videos of him taking the COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Family

Married five times, the father of 12 – five males and seven females has a very large family and the news has hit them hard.

The Texas born fought 81 times in his professional career winning 76 times of which 68 were knockouts. He lost only 5 times.

Foreman is well remembered for his historic Rumble in the Jungle bout against Muhammed Ali in 1974 where Ali led all three scorecards by 68-66, 70-67 and 69-66. Foreman two decades later reclaimed the two titles he lost to Ali.
