The Prince of Brazillian football, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, after 13 good years away from home, has returned to his boyhood club Santos.

The 32-year-old was greeted by a happy 20,000 Santos fans during his unveiling at Santos’ Vila Belmiro Stadium in Sao Paulo.

In 2013, young Neymar left his beloved Santos, where it all started and joined Barcelona for a reported fee of 88 million euros after being chased by almost all the big clubs in Europe.

“It’s a rescue for me, of happiness, of soccer. It’s been a long time since I’ve played since I’ve done the thing I love most in the world, which is playing soccer,” Neymar revealed to the media during his unveiling.

The ‘Star Boy’ is expected to help Santos be competitive in the 2025 Brazillian Serie A after gaining promotion from Serie B in 2024.

Santos has not been the club it is supposed to be, but Neymar’s return is expected to bring the club back to the top.

He helped the club win Copa Libertadores for the first time in 48 years in 2011 when Santos defeated Uruguayan side Penarol to win their 3rd title. Neymar was crowned the Best Player of the competition after a wonderful performance in that season.

Neymar spent 4 successful years at Barcelona, culminating in a treble-winning season in the 2014-15 season before securing a world record transfer (€222m) to Paris Saint Germain in France in 2017.

Saudi PRO League side Al Hilal paid €90m in the 2023 summer to PSG but due to injuries, Neymar played just seven games. He agreed to terminate his contract amicably with the Saudi side and has finally returned to his beloved Santos.
