Ghanaian striker Thomas-Asante has become the main man for goals for the red-hot Coventry City in the English Championship. After a shock defeat on Friday night at Wrexham United, Frank Lampard’s Coventry City welcomed Sheffield United in a must-win game to keep their lead on the log.
The match began with Sheffield United taking an early lead in the 25th minute through Sam McCallum, who pounced on a loose ball from a corner to silence the home crowd at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry, still smarting from their first defeat of the season against Wrexham, struggled to find rhythm in the first half but returned from the break with renewed urgency and mentality.
Japanese midfielder Tatsuhiro Sakamoto equalised in the 49th minute, finishing off a slick move orchestrated by centre back Bobby Thomas. Just 11 minutes later, Thomas turned from provider to scorer, heading home from a corner to give Coventry a 2–1 lead.
The Sky Blues dominated possession and pressed for a third, but Sheffield United remained dangerous on the counter.
In the dying moments of the game, Haji Wright broke free down the left flank and squared the ball for the 26-year-old Brandon Thomas-Asante, who calmly slotted home into an empty net.
The goal marked his tenth of the season and confirmed Coventry’s return to winning ways under Frank Lampard. The result keeps them top of the Championship table and boosts morale ahead of a tough run of fixtures.
