In his first major public statement since the 2024 general election setback, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has broken his silence with a heartfelt appeal to party members to regroup, unite, and chart a common course for victory in 2028.

Speaking in an informal and passionate address to party faithful and constituents, Acheampong acknowledged the electoral defeat the NPP suffered in 2024, describing it as a moment for deep reflection and realignment within the party.

“We went into election 2024, and things didn’t go well. We’ve seen the results. Now is the time for us to reflect and understand why Ghanaians didn’t vote for us,” he said.

The former minister admitted that the party had been weakened by internal divisions since the loss, citing the fragmentation of support and trust across various factions of the NPP.

He warned that disunity would only hamper the party’s chances of a strong comeback.

“No unity. This one belongs here, that one belongs there. It’s not good for us,” he said, urging a shift from factionalism toward a common identity based on shared values.

Listening Tour and Committees for Alignment

As part of efforts to reconnect with both the party grassroots and the wider Ghanaian electorate, Acheampong disclosed that he had formed multiple internal committees tasked with engaging party members and citizens across the country.

The goal, he said, is to align his personal vision with the aspirations of the party and the needs of Ghanaians.

“I told them: go and seek alignment—on jobs, food security, youth development, safety and security, and infrastructure,” he explained.

“I gave them a message and told them to return with a report so we can see what’s going on.”

According to him, the aim is not just to push an individual political agenda, but to synthesize a collective platform that reflects both his own leadership ideals and what Ghanaians are calling for post-2024.

Acheampong reminded his audience of his long-standing commitment to the NPP, stating that his experience as a grassroots mobilizer, a party financier, a former party officeholder, and a government minister has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of both the party structure and national governance.

“Everyone knows I’m a party man. I’ve worked in the party office. I’ve been MP, minister, cabinet member. I’ve financed the party. I’ve walked this journey,” he said.

This background, he suggested, gives him a legitimate voice in shaping the party’s future and makes him a credible candidate to lead the NPP in its post-defeat rebuilding phase.

The Road to 2028

Though he stopped short of formally declaring his candidacy, Acheampong’s remarks were widely interpreted as the clearest signal yet of his intent to contest for the NPP’s presidential slot ahead of the 2028 elections.

His emphasis on structure, message clarity, and national alignment suggest a campaign-in-waiting that is quietly building its foundation.
