What happened in Round 5

Aziz Ki’s 7th-minute goal for Young Africans in Nouakchott against Al-Hilal Oumdurman helped the Tanzanians record a slim 1-0 victory. After a disappointing start to the campaign, Yanga now faces a daunting task. MC Alger is just a point above the Tanzanians, and Yanga will eliminate MC Alger.

MC Alger on Friday night in Algiers secured a 1-o win over TP Mazembe which eliminated the Congolese side.

FAR Rabat drew 1-1 with rivals Raja, which opened the group, although the former has qualified having won 9 points. Raja Casablanca will host Maniema, with Sundowns hosting FAR. The Brazilians’ 2-1 triumph in Congo finally eliminated Maniema.

A draw in Pretoria between Sundowns and FAR will qualify both teams.

Group C is decided with a game to spare as victories for Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly secured wins over Belouizdad and Stade d’Abidjan. The wins qualified Al Ahly and Orlando Pirates. Al Ahly won 3-1 with Emam Asour scoring an impressive hattrick as Orlando Pirates won 2-1.

North African sides Esperance and Pyramids have qualified from Group D. Esperance won 1-0 in Bamako through Elias Mokwana’s 67th-minute strike. The Bucs defeated Belouizdad 2-1 in Johannesburg.
