The first leg of the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup was honoured on Wednesday afternoon with Stellenbosch drawing a disappointing goalless draw against the defending champions, Zamalek. The Egyptians will look forward to finishing the job in Cairo when Stellenbosch visits next Wednesday.

Abderrahim Deghmoum and John Ebuka’s strikes in either half helped Al Masry of Egypt record a 2-0 win over Tanzanian side Simba SC.

Imad Riahi’s second-half strike was enough for Berkane to secure a 1-0 win in Abidjan against the 10-man Asec Mimosas.

In all Algerian affairs, 10-men USM Alger played a 1-1 draw at Constantine. Mounder Temine put Constantine ahead in the 29th minute.

USM missed a penalty in the 54th minute with French striker Mehdi Megherm failing to restore parity for the away side from 12 yards.

Congolese striker Kevin Mondeko Zatu equalised for the away side in the 73rd minute. Boukhenchouche was shown a second yellow card two minutes after the equaliser, but USM Alger was able to defend and secured an important draw. USM will be the favourites in the second leg at home.
