Africa’s Best XI of the year 2024 was named on Monday night in Morocco during the 2024 CAF Awards.
With 3-4-3 chosen as the formation, Andre Onana of Manchester United was surprisingly chosen as the number one goalkeeper ahead of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns’ imperious Ronwen Williams who was even selected as the best goalkeeper of 2024.
The back three consists of Morocco and PSG’s Achraf Hakimi on the right, Senegal’s Kalidou Koulibaly in the middle and DR Congo’s Chancel Mbemba, who had a decent year with the national team and Marseille on the left.
The four men in the middle are Morocco’s Amrabat who sit deep in front of the defense. Mali and Tottenham Hotspur’s star midfielder Yves Bissouma plays alongside Amrab in the double pivot role.
Supporting them are Ghana’s West Ham United bona-fide playmaker Mohammed Kudus and Ivory Coast midfielder Frank Kessie who played an incredible role in the country’s AFCON 2023 triumph.
The all-star attack consists of the red-hot Egyptian star Mohamed Salah on the right, Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen, who won the 2023 African Footballer of the Year in the middle and the current winner Ademola Lookman of Atalanta on the left.
Notable players that missed the FIFPRO Africa Best XI are South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen and Burkina Faso, Serhou Guirassy of Guinea and Dortmund, Simon Adingra of Brighton & Hove Albion, Nigeria’s Victor Boniface and Real Madrid’s Moroccan forward Brahim Diaz.
