Nigerian outfit Kwara United will host Asante Kotoko at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie, following a venue change due to renovation works at the club’s traditional home, the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl.
The Nigerian FA Cup winners confirmed the update via their official social media platforms:
“Due to ongoing renovations at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, our CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round second leg match against Asante Kotoko of Ghana will now be played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.”
The switch to a neutral venue could play into Kotoko’s hands, as the Ghanaian giants travel to Nigeria with a 4–3 aggregate lead following a thrilling first-leg win in Accra. The Porcupine Warriors will now look to manage the game in Abeokuta, where Kwara United may not enjoy the full weight of home advantage.
The winner of this two-legged tie will advance to the second preliminary round, where they will face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad AC, one of the most decorated clubs in African football.
Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has emphasized unity and tactical discipline as key ingredients for progression, drawing inspiration from his previous continental success with Dreams FC.
