There’s no doubt that Ivan Toney was the main leader of Thomas Frank’s uncredible Brentford since they secured promotion to the English Premier League in the 2021/22 season.

The English striker left in the 2024 summer Transfer Window to the Saudi PRO League and signed a bumper deal with Al-Ahli.

A huge gap in terms of leadership especially in Brentford’s attack was left by Toney’s Saudi Arabia move but the 25-year-old Cameroonian forward, Bryan Mbeumo, has stepped up and doing the businees for the London club.

In an interview with The Telegraph Sports, the Cameroonian disclosed how he feels regarding the leadership role in Brentford.

“I feel like a leader in the team. Everybody needs to take responsibility but I have been at the club for five years now. At some point, you need to be a leader. I don’t feel any pressure [following Toney’s move to Saudi Arabia]. At the end of the day, I know what I need to do,” Mbeumo said.

The striker has started the season in a fine form after scoring 6 goals with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland the only one who has scored more goals (10) than him in the EPL.

“Maybe I have more expectations from the fans or the people outside the pitch, but if you want to reach the steps you want to, you need to embrace this”. Mbeumo has revealed that he is ready to embrace the huge challenge of leading the team.

“I don’t want to set limits on myself. I think I can always go higher. I want to be the best at what I do, every time,” the Cameroonian added.

Mbeumo said he has not set any limit for himself but he expects to go higher at this point in his career. He is certainly one of the best left footed wingers in Europe currently.

Blessed with pace, aggression, dribbling, finishing and finesse, the Cameroonian has everything a modern day forward needs to succeed.

Brentford travels to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon in the EPL and he is expected to dazzle for the Bees.

They lost 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford last season after taking a commanding 2-0 defeat. Mbeumo expects Brentford to revenge that painful defeat.

“Yeah, of course, we go there to try to get revenge,” Mbeumo said.

“Before every game, no matter who we play, we say we are going there to win. Not to just play and hope we get something. We want to win every game. We are not intimidated.”

Brentford has developed a knack of scoring within the first minute of games so far this season so Manchester United must watch out for Bryan Mbeumo and mates’ fast start.
