Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Oseikrom was the official venue for the Black Stars for more than 2 decades even though few games were played across the other venues of the nation.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium was declared unfit for CAF games soon after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat against Angola in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. The venue has not been used again for Ghana’s games with the Accra Sports Stadium now the place for Black Stars.
The Sports Ministry has confirmed that they have decided to make the Cape Coast Stadium the official home of the Black Stars for the meantine.
“If you look at the key stadium facilities we have, Cape Coast is one that we will not spend so much refurbish quickly, and not allow any club to play there; just keep it as a national stadium for Black Stars only, for the meantime,” the Sports Minister said.
Ghana’s biggest sporting problems have been all about poor facilities across the country. All the major stadia have been weeping for help, but little attention has been given to them.
The Cape Coast Sports Stadium looks good and more modern than the others, so the ministry has decided to refurbish it and reserve it for the senior national team.
“So we would have prepared it for the September and October window when we play the next qualifiers. After that, we can close Accra and Kumasi as well and make sure they are refurbished for competition,” Kofi Adams concluded.
Ghana will host two more games before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers conclude, and Cape Coast will certainly host those games.
