In a solemn display of solidarity and respect, the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Anokye, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, led a high-powered delegation to the Manhyia Palace to extend heartfelt condolences to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, ove the sudden death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III.

The visit formed part of the Catholic Church’s tradition of standing in empathy with bereaved families, particularly when it concerns the royal household of the Ashanti Kingdom.

Earlier in the day, Archbishop Anokye and his team first called on the Asantehene at his private residence within the Manhyia Palace to officially convey their sympathies over the loss that has befallen the royal family.

They offered words of comfort, invoking God’s peace and strength for the monarch during the period of mourning.

Following this, the delegation proceeded to the palace of the Asantehemaa, the Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, to also express their condolences. At both locations, the Catholic leaders joined in prayers, committing the soul of the departed to God’s care and asking for divine guidance for the royal family and the Ashanti Kingdom during this difficult time.

The Archbishop was accompanied by prominent figures within the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, including Rev. Monsignor Dr. Louis Kofi Tuffour, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia; Very Rev. Fr. Dennis Barima; and the Archdiocese’s Legal Advisor.

Their presence underscored the strong relationship between the Catholic Church and the Ashanti traditional authority.

This visit adds to the growing list of dignitaries, institutions, and religious leaders who have called on the Manhyia Palace in recent days to commiserate with the Asantehene and Asantehemaa, reflecting the deep cultural value placed on communal mourning and shared grief within Ghanaian society.
