Enzo Maresca was sacked last week after revealing that he had no backing from the top of the club. His comments angered the Chelsea leadership and subsequently relieved him of his duties.

Fans were surprised to hear that young English manager Liam Rosenior was the frontrunner or he hot role.

On Tuesday, Chelsea confirmed the arrival of Liam Rosenior, surprisingly handing him a contract that runs until 2032.

Rosenior, who had been managing Strasbourg in the French Ligue 1, accepted the role after verbally agreeing to the move earlier in the week.

His appointment comes at a critical time for Chelsea, who have endured inconsistency under Enzo Maresca in the current campaign due to injuries and unrest between him and the club hierarchy.

Rosenior’s experience in English football

Rosenior is no stranger to English football. A former Hull City and Derby County manager, he built a reputation for tactical intelligence and player development.

At Strasbourg, he guided the French side to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 season, despite limited resources.

His ability to maximise squad potential and instil discipline impressed Chelsea’s hierarchy, especially given the club’s need for stability and long-term planning.

Chelsea will look forward to returning to winning ways after drawing 1-1 at Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium when they travel to Craven Cottage to meet Fulham.
