The Chief Justice of Ghana, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has officially commissioned a High Court in Goaso, a move aimed at improving access to justice and strengthening judicial services in the Ahafo Region.

Addressing judges, chiefs, lawyers, clergy, security personnel and political leaders at the ceremony, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie explained that Goaso had long been the only regional capital in Ghana without a High Court, making the establishment of the court necessary to serve the people in the region.

“There was a need to establish one to serve the people and enhance judicial service,” he said.

Prior to the commissioning, residents of the region who required High Court services had to travel to other regions to access justice, often facing significant logistical and financial challenges.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also acknowledged the efforts of former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, who first proposed the establishment of a High Court in Goaso in 2018/2019.

The project, which was initially expected to be commissioned in 2024, experienced delays due to unforeseen circumstances before finally being completed.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional authorities, the Paramount Chief of Mim and Deputy President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Okrofrobour Dr. Yaw Adjei, expressed gratitude to the judicial authorities for the initiative.

He assured that the House of Chiefs would support the Judicial Service in promoting justice, peace and stability in the region.

“It is our hope and prayer that the High Court commissioned in the region will be fair to all people and protect the court’s integrity for now and the future,” he added.
