It is becoming a norm that players from the Ghana Premier League are selected for the Black Stars.

Otto Addo deserves credit for always including GPL top performers in his squad since returning in March 2024.

In March 2025’s International break, Otto Addo invited three GPL stars, namely, Benjamin Asare of Hearts of Oak, Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama SC and Nations FC’s dependable defender Razak Simpson.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, the former Ghana captain, CK Akonnor, welcomed the idea of giving slots to local players but highlighted that their call-up does not guarantee them a place in the first.

“They have been invited, and at training, if they show a good sign that they want to play, they have to convince the technical team that they are not just bench players but are here to start,” Akonnor stated.

“If they give the coach that signal, he wouldn’t hesitate to use them because his goal is to play and win matches with the best players available,” CK added.

The local-based players in the Black Stars camp are due to play a huge role in Ghana’s attempt to qualify for its 5th World Cup finals appearance.
