Round 11 of the marathon CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers was concluded earlier on Saturday with Uruguay snatching a very late winner against Colombia at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

Juan Quitero’s free-kick put Los Cafeteros ahead in the 31st minute. Davinson Sanchez’s own goal restored parity earlier in the second half for Uruguay. Rodrigo Aguirre scored to give Uruguay a 2-1 lead, but Colombia made it 2-2 through Gomez’s 96th-minute strike. Manchester United’s new boy, Manuel Ugarte, snatched a 101st-minute winner to send all Uruguayans to pure football heaven.

Bottom-of-the-table sides Chile and Peru played a dull, goalless draw, which has the potential to end their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Argentina lost 2-1 to Paraguay in Asuncion in a fierce contest. Lautaro Martinez’s early strike for the world champions was cancelled by Sanabria’s strike. Alderete’s 47th-minute header put Paraguay in the lead, and they were able to protect it.

Brazil travelled to Venezuela and drew a disappointing 1-1. Raphinha’s opener on the stroke of halftime for Brazil was cancelled by Segovia’s early goal in the second half for the home side.

Valencia, Plata (brace) and Minda’s goals ensured an emphatic 4-0 victory for Ecuador against lowly 10 men Bolivia.

The fight for the 6 slots is wide open with Chile and Peru looking unlikely to have a real chance to play at the 2026 World Cup.
