TikTok influencer, Prince Ofori, better known by his social media name Fante Comedy, has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court in a case that has gripped both the entertainment industry and the legal community.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the court admitted Ofori to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with three sureties.
The ruling requires that at least two of the sureties must be gainfully employed, while the accused must also surrender his passport to the police until the case concludes or the court decides otherwise.

Arrest Tied to Helicopter Crash

Ofori’s arrest on August 12, alongside two other individuals, stems from his alleged involvement in publishing false news and issuing a death threat connected to the August 6 military helicopter crash that killed eight high-ranking Ghanaian officers.

The crash, which remains under investigation by the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, has sparked intense public debate, speculation, and widespread misinformation online.

Police say the social media content produced by the accused fueled public unrest and threatened national security.

The Ghana Police Service, working with other security agencies, arrested the three suspects as part of efforts to clamp down on what they described as “deliberate attempts to mislead the public and incite panic” in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Court Proceedings

During his first court appearance, Ofori’s legal team petitioned for bail, arguing that the influencer was not a flight risk and would cooperate with the ongoing investigations.

Presiding judge, after reviewing the submissions, granted bail but attached strict conditions to ensure the accused remains available for trial. He granted bail to the tune of GHC100,000 with three sureties.

The court also scheduled the next hearing for August 25, 2025, when prosecutors are expected to present further evidence and charges.

Public Reaction

The arrest and subsequent bail of Fante Comedy have ignited divided opinions.

Supporters argue that the influencer is being targeted unfairly for exercising free speech, while others insist that his conduct crossed the line into dangerous disinformation at a sensitive national moment.

A Familiar Face in Ghana’s Online Space

Prince Ofori, who built a large following through comedic skits in Fante and English, is one of the country’s most recognizable TikTok personalities.

His arrest has not only shaken the growing influencer industry but also raised questions about the balance between freedom of expression and accountability in the digital age.

For now, Ofori remains out on bail, but the looming court date on August 25, 2025 will determine whether his online persona has landed him in one of the most high-profile social media trials in recent Ghanaian history.
