The Dambai Zongo community has rejected a Ramadan donation from Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency and Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The donation, which included bags of rice, milk, drinking chocolate, and toilet tissue worth thousands of cedis, was turned down due to allegations of insults and discrimination against the community by Mustapha Gbande.

According to reports, Mustapha Gbande had declared that he would use his position to block any candidate from the zongo community from becoming a municipal chief executive, sparking outrage among residents.

This alleged bias and disrespect towards the community led to the rejection of the donation, which would have been a welcome gesture during the month of fasting.

The Dambai Zongo community, a historically Muslim-majority area of the Oti capital, has a long history of receiving Ramadan donations from politicians and public figures.
