The government’s flagship Nkoko Nkete Nkete programme has commenced the distribution of 10,000 birds to 200 beneficiaries in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.

Each beneficiary received 50 broiler birds, marking the first phase of the initiative in the municipality under the Feed Ghana Programme. The 200 beneficiaries form part of about 20,000 individuals and entities that have registered to participate in the programme locally.

The beneficiaries are expected to rear the birds to maturity within the next seven weeks for consumption and commercial purposes.

Speaking at the distribution exercise held at K. Asante Farms in Atwima-Agogo, where the birds were reared, the Municipal Chief Executive, Wisdom Osei Boamah, said the Nkoko Nkete Nkete initiative is a four-year programme. He noted that the number of birds allocated to farmers and other beneficiary entities could be increased in subsequent phases.

According to him, the programme aligns with the government’s broader vision of making poultry products readily available, accessible and affordable to Ghanaians.

Mr. Boamah urged beneficiaries to strictly adhere to operational guidelines provided by veterinary officers to ensure healthy growth of the birds and avoid losses. He also commended veterinary officers, staff of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and participating poultry farmers for their roles in the successful rollout of the programme.

The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Daniel Peprah, advised beneficiaries to maintain proper hygiene and management practices to protect the birds from diseases and poor health conditions.

In his remarks, Nana Asante Krobea, Farm Manager at K. Asante Farms, praised the government for actively involving the private sector, particularly poultry farmers, in the implementation of the initiative. He described the programme as a boost for private sector growth and job creation in the poultry industry, noting that it adds value to poultry production, supports business expansion, creates employment for the youth and contributes to reducing unemployment and poverty in the country.
