A boat accident on the Volta Lake in East Gonja has claimed the lives of nine people, while two others are missing.
Wednesday evening was a dark moment for the citizens of Sikakope and Mataiko, where the unfortunate accident occurred.
14 passengers were on board when the boat capsized as a result of extremely poor weather. Of the 14 members on board, seven of whom two are women, five children are dead. The other five males were rescued by rescuers who rushed to the scene on time.
Per multiple reports, none of the victims was wearing life jackets, which is aginst the rules and regulations of boarding a boat.
Two people – one woman and one boy are still missing while seven bodies have been retrieved. The rescue team have intensified their search for the missing two, according to reports.
