Yesterday
Ukraine came from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1. It was a must-win for the Ukrainians because a defeat would have sent them home. They are now in contention to progress depending on how they will play against Belgium in the last group game.
Austria triumphed 3-1 sensationally over Poland. Goals from Trauner, Baumgartner and Arnautovic helped Ralph Rangnick’s Austria to breathe.
France and Netherlands drew goalless after both teams squandered so many clear scoring opportunities.
Today
Georgia will face Czech Republic in a must-win game for both teams. Georgia was beaten by the highly aggressive Turkish 3-1 on matchday 1 while the Czech Republic was fully flat against Portugal in their 2-1 defeat. Both teams would want to win the three points to keep their hopes alive.
Turkey and Portugal will look forward to progressing to the knockout stage as whoever wins will qualify. All eyes will be on the imperial Cristiano Ronaldo who many expect to score in the game.
Belgium will face Romania who made Ukraine look like probably the worst team in the competition after thrashing them 3-0. Super stars-less Romania would want to continue the momentum they gathered when they faced Ukraine. Belgium surprisingly lost to Slovakia in matchday 1 and must avoid defeat to avoid any form of disappointment. A lot is expected from Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku who failed to do the business for Belgium against Slovakia.
