Goal.com international announced at around 6:30 pm on 17th August 2012 that Arsenal’s bona fide striker Robin Van Persie has decided to join bitter rivals Manchester United.

The Gunners fraternity got pissed and decided to forever end the relationship that had existed between them and the then-skipper, Van Persie, forever and ever.

Van Persie sealed a £22.1m deal with £1.1m as add-ons if Manchester United wins the Premier League with the Dutch hitman.

The former Dutch striker said in an interview with SportCast when asked about a future return to the Gunners in a managerial role, “I don’t expect to work at Arsenal. I think that door is closed because of my move to Manchester United.

“You never know what will happen in football, but that’s my expectation. It’s still sensitive for them, not for me, especially for the Arsenal fans.”

Van Persie enjoyed a roller coaster eight years at Arsenal between 2004 and 2012 before announcing he would not be signing a new contract and subsequently completed a transfer to rivals Manchester United in the summer of 2012.

The striker went on to win the Premier League in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring 26 goals in 38 games.

“I mainly live in the here and now. I enjoy it here and I am very proud to be the coach of SC Heerenveen. I feel very welcome within the club and among the fans. I also think that it is important that you feel welcome.”

“One day, the chairman of Arsenal showed me how healthy the club was by showing me their positive numbers. I told him: ‘I don’t give a s*** about these numbers, I want to lift the Premier League trophy.

Initially, Arsenal had wanted RVP to move outside England, with Juventus as the potential destination for the then 29-year-old.

”We felt it would be best to leave for a club outside of England, the deal with Juventus was closed. But the chairman of Arsenal was stubborn towards Juventus. I told him that my other two options were Manchester United or Manchester City, so it was his own risk.

“My departure from Arsenal to Manchester United is still a sensitive topic in England. But I wanted to win, I just wanted to win. And I had to take a risk for that.”

RVP is currently the manager of the Dutch Eridivide side Heerenveen. The club sits 12th on the league log after winning 14 points from 12 games.
