The mentality of Samartex 1996 ahead of the second leg of the 2024-25 CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg against Cameroonian champions, Victoria United, is awesome.
The Timber Giants surprisingly defeated Victoria United 1-0 in Cameroon on last week Sunday. It was their debut on CAF inter-club competition.
Nurudeen Amadu’s side showed a great character in Cameroon and are willing to repeat it on next Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The P.R.O of the club, Kwasi Abronomah has revealed that everyone connected to the club has it in mind that they are 1-0 down ahead of the second leg and hence complacency is their enemy now.
“Everyone at Samartex have it in mind that we are down by 1-0. That’s our mentality. We have angered them, so we are expecting them to react”, Abronomah told AP Sports.
Winning away from home in African football has always been a difficult task. The win for the Ghanaians indeed will force the Cameroonians to react on Sunday because they also want to progress.
“Operation 5,000 fans: Samartex have launched Operation 5,000 fans for the second leg. We need 50 VIP buses from Samraboi to Accra.
We want all Ghanaians to come and support us.
Akwasi Abronomah said that the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the Ghana Football Association have played a very key role in their journey so far.
“We always communicate with the Sports Ministry and GFA. They have done extremely well for us. Financially, they have helped us,” Abronomah added.
Samartex is expected to beat Victoria United to book a ticket to the winner-takes-all zone where they are due to meet Moroccan champions Raja Casablanca.
On the possibility of meeting the Moroccans, Abronomah assured fans that they will know how to deal with Raja incase they meet but Victoria United first.
