The death of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on July 26, 2025, has not only evoked tributes from fans and fellow musicians but has also stirred controversy surrounding his early career and personal relationships.

For the first time since his passing, the family of the late Theresah Abebrese — a woman alleged to have been instrumental in the musician’s early success — has spoken out publicly, accusing the late star of emotional abandonment and ingratitude.

In a self-recorded video circulating widely on social media, members of Theresah’s family alleged that she played a pivotal role in Daddy Lumba’s journey to stardom, including sponsoring his first trip to Germany during the formative years of his career.

They claim that, despite her sacrifices, Daddy Lumba distanced himself from her after achieving fame and instead married another woman, Akosua Serwaa.

According to the family, this alleged betrayal caused deep hurt to Theresah, who later went on to marry another man.

They have urged the public to scrutinize the timeline of events by comparing the date of Lumba’s marriage to Akosua Serwaa with the date Theresah tied the knot, suggesting the sequence supports their claim of abandonment.

Adding credibility to the allegations, Madam Acheampong — popularly known as Lumba’s godmother — confirmed on live radio that it was indeed Theresah’s father who financed the artist’s travel to Germany.

She stated that the family not only purchased his ticket but also provided him with pocket money to help him settle abroad.

Theresah Abebrese, whose personal life was largely kept out of the public eye, passed away years before Lumba’s death.

The family says they remained silent for decades out of respect for both parties but felt compelled to speak out now to set the records straight on her role in the musician’s life.

Daddy Lumba, regarded as one of Ghana’s most celebrated highlife musicians, had a career spanning over three decades with numerous hit songs and awards to his name.

His private life, however, has often been a subject of public fascination and speculation, including reports that he fathered 11 children with four different women.
