A devastating fire swept through the Kantamanto Market in Accra, displacing hundreds of traders and destroying significant portions of the bustling commercial center.

The blaze broke out late in the night and quickly spread, engulfing shops and leaving a trail of destruction. Traders made frantic attempts to save their goods, but the flames proved too fierce, consuming everything in their path.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) deployed 13 fire tenders and additional equipment from across the Greater Accra Region to battle the raging inferno. Despite their prompt intervention, firefighters described the fire as “unprecedented,” with large sections of the market reduced to ashes.

Emergency teams are still working to extinguish the fire and prevent further damage. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, and investigations are expected to begin once the flames are fully under control.

The incident has left a significant blow to the livelihoods of traders who depend on the market, one of Accra’s key commercial hubs.
