Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards has revealed that German playmaker Florian Wirtz is now a major problem for Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot.
The playmaker was signed for the then British record 115 million pounds from Bayer 04 Leverkusen after showing many glimpses of world-class performances.
After 11 Premier League games, Wirtz has failed to score or assist, which has become a huge concern for Slot and the club.
On Sunday evening at Manchester City, Wirtz was a mere passenger in the game, with Micah Richards declaring that he is now a problem for the club.
“If you get bought for £100-plus million, you should be ready to go,” said the former Manchester City full-back. “Today we didn’t see Wirtz again, and that becomes a problem for the manager,” Richards said.
“I think that if you are bought for that amount of money, regardless of what league you’re coming from, you should show more than what you’re showing now,” Richards concluded. Expectations are high on the German forward due to his price, and Micah Richards expects more from Florian Wirtz.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville on Wirtz:
“Wirtz looked like a ‘little boy’ against City, “Wirtz is a problem,” Neville said on his podcast after the game.
“Let’s just call it as it is. It’s an issue. He’s £100m-plus, and to be fair, I said a few weeks ago [Milos] Kerkez looked like a little boy out there. Today I thought Wirtz looked like a little boy. That can’t be the case.
“We’ve been tiptoeing around him for a few months, around the fact that he’s young, he’s coming to a new country, but he’s £100m-plus, you’re going to have to stand up soon,” Gary Neville concluded.
Liverpool in the summer splashed 450 million pounds on Wirtz, Frimpong, Kerkez, Ekitike, Isak and Mamardashvili. Ekitike and Mamardashvili are the only two players that have impressed among the big money signings in the transfer window.
