According to the report, he collapsed during a morning walk and was immediately taken to Devamatha Hospital in India, which said he had suffered a cardiac arrest and did not respond to resuscitation measures and was declared dead at “9:52” local time (04:22GMT).
In recent weeks, there have been speculations about his health, but his family and political allies dismissed all those reports.
Following his death, the Kenyan President William Ruto has paid tribute to Odinga as a “beacon of courage” and the “father of democracy” and has declared seven days of mourning in a live address to the nation.
