The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno is alive and actively performing his duties, dismissing rumours of his death as false and malicious.
The statement, issued over the weekend, urged the public to disregard circulating reports on social media that claimed the IGP had passed away.
The police administration described the rumours as completely false, stressing that Mr Yohuno remains in good health and continues to discharge his mandate as the head of the Service.
Officials condemned the speculation as reckless and insensitive, warning that such misinformation undermines public trust in national security institutions. The Service emphasised that the IGP is not only alive but also fully engaged in his responsibilities.
In their communication, the Police Service cautioned individuals behind the false reports that spreading disinformation is a criminal offence under Ghanaian law.
They noted that those responsible would be identified and prosecuted accordingly. The administration further appealed to the public to rely on credible sources for information, especially on sensitive matters involving national leadership.
For many Ghanaians, the clarification brings relief and stability, as the role of the Inspector-General of Police is central to maintaining law and order.
The reassurance that Mr Yohuno is alive and well reinforces confidence in the Police Service at a time when misinformation can easily cause panic. The Service’s swift response highlights its commitment to transparency and to safeguarding the integrity of its leadership.
