Qatar has become a new home for Ghanaians as many travel to seek greener pastures.

The relationship between the two countries has been described as friendly and cordial, with Ghanaians enjoying working in the Middle Eastern nation, and Ghanaians have also expressed their happiness working with Ghanaians.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced plans for the two nations to increase the number of workers from Ghana to Qatar.

On his Facebook wall, Ablakwa bulleted;

“I was hosted by His Excellency Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Samikh Al Marri, Minister for Labour of Qatar, in the margins of the Doha Forum yesterday.

I am grateful to my good friend for his excellent hospitality and exceptional brotherhood.

We discussed the newly ratified Ghana-Qatar Labour Mobility Agreement, which the Ghanaian Parliament ratified last week.

With both Parliaments of Ghana and Qatar having ratified the agreement, we have now commenced full implementation.

According to official data at the Qatar Labour Ministry, there are some 13,000 Ghanaians already working in Qatar. We intend to double this number by next year and hit 50,000 in the medium term.

Ghana will host the first meeting of the Ghana-Qatar Joint Technical Committee in February 2026. The newly ratified agreement creates this joint committee to oversee the successful implementation of this partnership.

We commit to a transparent and credible recruitment process.

Best wishes to all talented Ghanaians who will be holding high the flag of Ghana in multiple sectors, including aviation, tourism, IT, logistics, transportation and public health, as they work under better conditions with strong protection of their rights.

The Mahama administration will keep pursuing smart policies to create jobs for the youth both in Ghana and abroad.”

Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that the Mahama administration is willing to improve the lives of Ghanaians by assisting them to work in Qatar with good working conditions.
