Gold production sustains economies, there is no two ways about that. China, Russia, Australia, Canada, Ghana, South Africa, USA are some of the countries that produce gold in abundance yearly.
In 2024, China was ranked the top producer of gold across the world with an output of 380 metric tons with Australia, Russia, Canada and the United States completing the top 5.
Ghana in Africa is ranked the top producer of gold on the continent. The West African nation is known for Gold production and has improved massively in their production going from 88 MT in 2015 to 130 MT in 2024.
Gold has become an important driver for Ghana’s economy. In 2023, gold exports accounted for 62.1 per cent of Ghana’s total exports, adding US$580 million to the nation’s gross domestic product.
Newmont’s Ahafo South mine, which produced 581,000 ounces of gold in 2023, and Gold Fields Tarkwa mine with 551,000 ounces are some of the most productive gold mines in the country.
Ghana produced 130 metric tons in 2024 helping them top South Africa (110 MT), one of the largest producers of gold.
Sudan produced 64 tons of gold in 2024 and is ranked third. Tanzania(60 MT), Mali (51 MT), Burkina Faso (47.7 tons) and Zimbabwe (36.48 MT).
