Foreign Affairs Minister of Ghana, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, was excited to have engaged with Dr The Most Honourable Andrew Michael Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica.

The prime minister thanked His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and Ghana for the support they got after the fatal Hurricane Melissa.

They later had a conversation concerning the shortage of teachers and nurses in Jamaica, where they reached an agreement on Ghana deploying some in 2026 to North America.

As Jamaica plans to explore more business opportunities, the two nations have agreed to cooperate and offer assistance to each other.

Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa wrote on X.

“The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Dr The Most Honourable Andrew Michael Holness, has graciously received my delegation and me.

Prime Minister Holness conveyed heartfelt gratitude to President Mahama and Ghana for the generous assistance and true solidarity in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa’s devastation.

The Prime Minister says Jamaica will never forget the kindness of Ghana.

We discussed other important matters, including committing to send Ghanaian teachers and nurses to Jamaica this year under a special labour exchange agreement.

We have also agreed to initiate a Ghana-Jamaica Defence Cooperation Agreement.

We further explored business opportunities for Ghanaian companies, as Jamaica intends to embark on a massive infrastructural revamp as part of the Prime Minister’s bold vision for building back better.

Prime Minister Holness has pledged to offer full support for President Mahama’s UN resolution seeking to declare the transatlantic slave trade the greatest crime against humanity and to demand reparations.

I thank the inspirational Prime Minister for his exceptional hospitality, as Ghana looks forward to hosting him soon, considering his strong desire to visit the motherland soon.
