Ghana dazzled at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where they reached Round 16. IT was a maiden appearance at the World Cup, yet defeated the USA and the Czech Republic but lost to superpowers Italy and Brazil.

In South Africa, the Black Stars was just a kick away from becoming the first team from Africa to reach the quarter finals but unluckily lost on penalties to Uruguay.

In the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups, Ghana did not qualify from their respective groups but still played well. This is the standard the West Africans have set at the world stage.

After securing a slot for the fifth World Cup, Ghana will aim to put up a good performances and at least make it to the quarter finals.

Sports Minister, Kofi Adams is optimistic the Black Stars will make the continent proud in the 2026 FIFA World Cup too be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“The World Cup will be an interesting stage. We will go there and make Ghana and Africa proud so that when we bid to host in the future. we will be seriously considered because of the strong role we played.

“Experiences of the past, both positive and negative, will guide us into the future, ensuring that we do not just go to kick the ball, but that by the time the whole process ends, Ghana will emerge as one of the biggest winners,” Kofi Adams said.

Ghana will learn their opponents on Friday 5th December where the draw will be conducted in the USA.
