Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has lauded Ghana’s security agencies following the arrest of 48 suspected cybercrime operatives in a coordinated nighttime operation at Dawhenya in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

The intelligence-led operation was carried out by the Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with National Security and the Ghana Police Service, targeting what authorities describe as an organised cybercrime syndicate operating within the area.

Preliminary interrogation suggests the suspects, made up of 46 males and two females, are believed to be Nigerian nationals. They are suspected to be involved in several cyber-related crimes, including romance scams, online investment fraud, impersonation schemes and illicit online gold trading.

Items retrieved during the operation included 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, a Starlink internet device and eight MTN TurboNet routers, all believed to have been used to facilitate the alleged criminal activities.

Commenting on the arrests, Sam George praised the operatives for their professionalism, describing their conduct as a reflection of the global standards associated with Ghana’s security services.

“We are committed to carrying out intelligence-led surgical strikes against these crime syndicates to ensure that we rid our cyber ecosystem of these criminals. Ghana welcomes everyone interested in legitimate enterprise. We will remain a hostile domain for cyber criminals,” Sam George said on his social media handles.
