Ghana’s participation at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games in Paris has concluded without securing any medals.

The disappointment came as the 4x100m relay team failed to advance to the finals due to disqualification in Thursday’s race.

The relay team, comprising Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, and Joe Paul Amoah, competed in Heat 2 against strong teams including Jamaica, Canada, Germany, China, Liberia, Brazil, and France.

Despite a competitive performance, they finished sixth due to a messy baton changeover.

Following a review, the team was disqualified for a late baton exchange in the final leg.

This disqualification effectively ended Ghana’s Olympic campaign, marking a disappointing outcome as the country failed to add to its tally of five previous Olympic medals.

Earlier in the Games, Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey was eliminated after finishing seventh in the Men’s 100m Freestyle, which was his debut Olympic appearance.

Joselle Alice Mensah narrowly missed the semi-finals in the Women’s 50m Freestyle, finishing fourth with a time of 26.81 seconds.

High jumper Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah also faced an early exit. Despite clearing the 1.83m and 1.88m bars with ease, she was unsuccessful in all three attempts at 1.92m, missing out on a place in the final.

In the 100m sprint, both Azamati and Saminu performed well enough to reach the semi-finals but did not progress to the finals.

Ghana’s performance in Paris reflects the challenges faced by the country’s athletes on the global stage, highlighting the need for continued support and development to achieve future success.
