Ahmed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Banda, has disclosed that the government is planning to issue diplomatic passports to chiefs in a bid to safeguard customs and traditions.

After a meeting with the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development said, “It is not for enjoyment but to protect customs and tradition, so that chiefs are treated with the dignity their office deserves.”

The government is willing to protect and uplift the image of customs and traditions of Ghana and is thinking of making travelling easier for chiefs, who are the first people to sell our customs.

Chieftaincy play key role in the governance of Ghana, and many are in support of the ministries’ initiative.

The Ministry will need the president’s order to issue a diplomatic passport to chiefs.
