3rd December 2023 was the last time Bibiani Gold Stars lost at Dun’s Park in the Ghana Premier League. It has been 13 good months since the Bibiani-based club lost at home in the league. The club had won 15 and drawn two in the 17 games played ahead of the visit of Samuel Boadu’s Berekum Chelsea.

The week 16 fixture was a must-win match for the title contenders. Their 2-0 defeat in week 15 against Kotoko in Kumasi sent them to fourth on the table, and they needed to win to move into the top two.

After a disappointing goalless draw in the first half, both sides fancied their chances of lifting the three points. Dun’s Park always makes Gold Stars a dangerous side, and they became even more dangerous in the second half.

Gideon Anaba finally opened the scoring in the 72nd minute for the home side after putting Chelsea under pressure for a long period.

Frimpong Manso’s men forced Chelsea to score an own goal in the 85th minute through Mohammed Seidu to make it 2-0. The own goal doubled the home team’s lead. Gold Stars was so happy to return to winning ways. The club sits second in the table having won 30 points from 16 games, the same as league leaders Heart of Lions who has a game in hand.

Bibiani Gold Stars’ dream of winning the title is still on because they can rely on Dun’s Park for support.
