Gregg Berhalter has been sacked as the USA men’s head coach after a disastrous campaign in the 2024 COPA America.
The former US defender leaves after failing to guide his team out of the group stages of this summer’s Copa America losing to the unfancied Panama and the red hot Uruguay.
Berhalter took charge of his country in December 2018 and won the 2020 and 2024 CONCACAF Nations League, as well as the 2021 Gold Cup quickly earning him a fan favourite status but all has vanished since exiting early in a tournament the USA are hosting.
Matt Crocker, US Soccer’s sporting director, will lead the search for a new head coach.
Per the Guardian US Sports, former Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, Jurgen Klinsmann, Phialdelphia Union’s Jim Curtin, Steve Cherundolo of LA FC, Thiery Henry who is set to lead France’s Olympic, 2014 World Cup winner Joachim Low, Jesse Marsh who took Canada to the semi-finals of the ongoing COPA America and former Zambia coach Herve Rehnard are all iin contention to succeed Berhalter.
